Amazon and retailers agree with California to push for federal legislation resolution (Main Street Fairness Act)

As reported moments ago by the Sacramento Bee (read here), Amazon and other national retailers have agreed to suspend their referendum effort in exchange for a concerted effort to resolve this issue (of internet sales tax collection) by July 2012.

    Love him or hate him, Wile E. Bezos has been a virtuso at this game.

    Memo to Mainstreet, Walmart, Target, Bestbuy et al :
    You can’t beat him, so might as well join him.
    Stop your breathless legislative efforts and redo your biz model and spinoff your online ops to take advantage of this loophole too. The politicians aren’t going to level the playing field anytime soon or at least not before you all join Circuit City & Borders in bigbox heaven.
