A great article by Bruce P. Ely reveals that although Alabama’s new governor insists that he will “absolutely not” raise taxes, he does consider it important to ensure that already-due taxes are collected.
The article goes on to describe how the governor’s staff is considering joining the Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Agreement.
The Agreement eases the costs and administrative burdens on retailers that collect sales taxes, and encourages “remote sellers” selling over the Internet and by mail order to collect tax on sales to customers living in Streamlined member states. With its fragmented local sales/use tax system, Alabama is truly the poster-child for SST.
We are very excited to introduce Governor Bentley and his staff to TaxCloud!
